What gum treatment involves

Gum disease usually starts quietly, with bleeding while brushing and little or no pain. Left alone it can affect the bone supporting your teeth, and that damage is much harder to reverse than to prevent. We focus on removing the deposits driving the inflammation, cleaning deeper where we need to, and changing the daily routine that allowed it to build up.

What happens at the appointment

We examine your gums, including anywhere they have pulled away from the teeth.

We clean thoroughly above and below the gumline.

We give you specific guidance for the areas that are hardest for you to reach.

We see you again to check how your gums have responded.

Afterwards

Gums often feel tender for a short while after deeper cleaning. How much they improve depends heavily on your daily routine at home, which is why we ask you to come back for a review.
