What painless tooth extraction involves
Removing a tooth is our last option, not our first, and we will tell you if we can save a tooth by other means. When extraction genuinely is the right call, we numb the area fully first, so the procedure itself should not be painful. Most of what people remember as a difficult extraction is anxiety and pressure rather than pain, and we think that is worth saying out loud before you sit down.
What happens at the appointment
We assess the tooth, usually with an X-ray, so that we can see the root and the bone around it.
We give local anaesthetic and allow time for it to take full effect.
We remove the tooth. You will feel pressure during the procedure, but not pain.
We give you clear spoken and written instructions for the first 24 hours.
Afterwards
Following our after care instructions in the first day matters most, particularly around bleeding, rinsing and what you eat. We will also discuss with you whether and how to fill the gap later.
